Kristin Sveinsdottir, mezzo-soprano
Kristín is singer based in Reykjavík, Iceland. This current season she sings the role of Cherubino in The Marriage of Figaro in a new prudoction by Kammeróperan, at the beginning of April, Kristín will debut as a soloist with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and during Dark Music Days in January, Kristín and the pianist Matthildur Anna Gísladóttir will premiere the opera Halfway Down by Elín Gunnlaugsdóttir.
Kristín studied classical singing at the University for Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. She also lived in Milan from 2015 to 2016 where she studied at the Accademia Teatro alla Scala and got to perform regularly as a soloist at La Scala. Kristín's main roles on the opera stage have been Cherubino in The Marriage of Figaro, Dorabella in Così fan tutte and Hansel in Hansel and Gretel and Zweite Dame in The Magic Flute. Kristín takes also great joy in performing contemporary music, old and new church music and Lieder.
Kristín is one of the founders of Kammeróperan, which has received much praise and recognition in recent years for its accessible opera performances for children as well as adults in Iceland. More about Kammeróperan here.
